About us

Empowering Youth Through Holistic Development: Life Skills Prep's Comprehensive Approach

Life Skills Prep is dedicated to serving and empowering students, families, and the community by emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to youth development. Our goal is to nurture the social, emotional, physical, mental, and intellectual growth of young people. We achieve this through sustainable youth development programs that promote healthy habits in teens, incorporating arts-in-education, college and career guidance, parent engagement, after-school programs, and community events.

Middle Achievers Program

6th through 8th grade

The middle school program is designed for sixth through eighth grade. Research shows that this age group experiences the second largest period of brain development in their lifetime, creating a valuable opportunity for our program to help students develop and refine their decision-making skills, personal identities, social connections, attitudes toward academics and career pursuits, and to prevent juvenile delinquency. This after school program will begin in January of 2026, with registration opening on Nov.1, 2025. This will be a free service open to the community. Transportation will be provided from the local middle and high schools at a cost.

High Achievers Program

The high school program consists of three to four one-hour sessions held each month from October through May, with staff, students, and career mentors in attendance. Our evidence-based LifeSkills curriculum helps teens develop healthy habits that enable a successful transition into adulthood. This after school program will begin in January of 2026, with registration opening on Nov.1, 2025. This will be a free service open to the community. Transportation will be provided from the local middle and high schools at a cost.

PRE-ETS Services/ IEP or 504 plans

Pre-employment transition services are provided to all who meet the definition of a “student with a disability” as determined by The Florida Department of Vocational Rehabilitation

A VR participant aged 14-21, with an active IEP or 504 plan, can receive individualized instruction through the following services:

Job Exploration Counseling- guided career exploration that will enhance opportunities for meaningful interaction, engagement, and self-reflection as the student participates in activities leading to a greater awareness of various career and employment opportunities.

Work based learning experiences may include in-school or after school opportunities, or experience outside the traditional school settings (including internships) for students, including those with the most significant disabilities, to practice and improve workplace skills in competitive integrated work settings before high school exit.

Workplace Readiness Training- helps students with disabilities develop social skills and independent living, such as communication and interpersonal skills, financial literacy, orientation and mobility skills, job seeking skills, understanding employer expectations for punctuality and performance, as well as other employability skills. These services may include instruction, as well as activities that provide students opportunities to practice/ apply knowledge.

CareerPrep

Career Prep is our structured, evidence-based program for students aged 14-21. Participants engage in an experiential curriculum that includes career mentoring, life skills development, goal setting, job readiness training, and career exploration. Students typically enter the program in ninth grade and receive training, guidance, and support through four years of post-high school education.

Teenpreneur Club

This bi-monthly mentorship program integrates our 10 core components to foster healthy habits in a social environment, guided by our trained staff and local mentors/professionals. The program promotes hands-on learning. We teach investing by forming an investment club, entrepreneurship by guiding students through the creation, marketing, and sale of a product, and financial literacy by helping youth budget any earned income throughout the year. The club will begin on September 13, 2025. Registration for this program will begin on June 1, 2025.
